Glass plate by Tokiko Kurokawa

This is a glass plate by Tokiko Kurokawa. When I think of drinking wine, this is the first plate I think of using. Transparent colored glass is affected in a positive sense by the material of the table top and the lighting, and can be used to change the atmosphere each time. Whether you want to enjoy a refreshing drink with the lightness of glass, or sip a glass of wine in a relaxed atmosphere with the plate itself looking warm and cozy in low lighting, the glass is expressive all year round. Thanks to Kurokawa, I have learned how to use glass in ways that are not limited to summer, and I have also learned that matching food with the same color gradation can look incredibly pretty. Caprese with cherry tomatoes is the cutest so far.

これは黒川登紀子さんのガラスプレート。「さあ今日はワインを飲むぞ、つまみはどうしようかな」と考えるとき、同時に頭に浮かぶうつわだ。なぜなら透明な色ガラスは、テーブルの天板の素材や照明の光に、いい意味で影響を受けて、その都度、雰囲気を変えて使えるから。ガラスならではの軽やかさを借りてさわやかに飲みたいときにも、照明を落としてプレート自体をコックリあたたかく見せてゆったりワインをくゆらせたいときにも、一年中、表情豊かなのだ。黒川さんのおかげで、そんな、夏だけじゃないガラスの使い方を覚えたし、同色のグラデーションで食材を合わせるととんでもなくかわいく見えることも知った。プチトマトのカプレーゼが、いまのところ一番かわいい。色ガラスを生活に取り入れて以来、うつわと料理の色合わせがますます楽しくなったと思う。
