Tea cup by Akio Nukaga

This is Akio Nukaga’s Sabikohiki teacup. I got two of them at Utsuwa Kaede in Gaienmae, together with a Kyusu (teapot) also by Nukaga, but by the time I got them packed at the store, I had already decided to use the teapot for Japanese tea and the teacups for coffee, so they have been separated since they came to my house. Sorry cups! The cracked skin inside of the teacup should be good for coffee, anyway. My husband went out with me that day, which was a rare occasion, and we both liked them so much that we bought them together. When he makes coffee, he uses this cup. Our guests are always pleased saying “How nice!” Yes, it is definitely a nice view.

これは額賀章夫さんの錆粉引（さびこひき）の湯呑み。外苑前のうつわ楓さんで、同じく錆粉引の急須と合わせていただいたのだけれど、梱包が済む頃には「急須は日本茶に、湯のみはコーヒーに使いたいな」と気持ちが固まってしまい、うちに来てからはいつも離れ離れ。ごめん……。しかし湯飲みの内側のひび割れた肌を見たときから「コーヒーが美味しく飲めるはず」と、強く、強く思ってしまったのだから仕方がない。その日は珍しく夫も一緒に出かけて、ふたりで気に入って購入したので、いまでも夫がコーヒーを淹れてくれる時は、この湯呑みのことが多い。来客のコーヒータイムにも「素敵〜」と喜ばれる。あたり前だよ、だって、間違いなくいい景色なのだもの。

I feel that the rusty kohiki skin and the black and brown of the outside of the teapot are all very suitable for coffee.
となりに並ぶのは、お揃いの急須ではなくいつもケメックス。錆粉引の肌と外側の黒とブラウン、どこをとってもコーヒーがとてもよく似合ううつわだと感じている。

I think it will take a while before I brew Japanese tea with the set of Nukaga’s teapot and teacups.
急須と湯呑みで日本茶を淹れるのは少し先かな。食器棚の中では近くにいるのだけれど。
