Tea cup by Masanobu Ando

This is a cup by Masanobu Ando. I casually picked it up at his solo exhibition at To-kyo gallery in Nishi-Azabu, and it stuck to the palm of my hand as if to say, “It’s yours now,” and it felt so good that I brought it home. I usually drink coffee with it. The coffee aroma which come from the cup in my palm hands is always exceptional. I have been using it for a long time, and this is what it looks like with stain. This teacup was the start of my discovery of the pleasure of patina, and I began to collect different white teacups of similar sizes. i have heard that white comes in 200 colors!

これは安藤雅信さんのカップ。西麻布にあるギャラリー「桃居」の個展でなにげなく手に取ったら「もう、あなたのものよ」とでもいうように私の手のひらにぴったりと引っついて、なんとも気持ちがよかったので、安藤さんの作品っぽくない形のような気もしたけれど持ち帰った。飲むのは大抵、コーヒー。なぜなら、取っ手のないカップを両手に包んですーっと吸い込んだときの香りといったら格別だからだ。もともと柔らかな白をコーヒーの茶渋でもっとやさしくなるまで育ててみたいという願望もあった。使い続けて、いまこんな感じ。この湯のみをきっかけに、陶器を育てる愉しみを知り、似た大きさの、異なる白の湯のみを集めるようにもなったのだった。白って200色あんねん！と誰かが言っていたけれど、そう、白こそ奥深いのだ。

There happened to be circle and square shaped sweets, which made the utsuwa-scenary as if a sculpture.
たまたま「まる」と「しかく」のお菓子があって、うつわと合わせて彫刻みたいな景色になった日。

Ando actually makes up more than 200 variations of white glazes.
安藤さんは、実際に200色以上のバリエーションの白の釉薬を作り使い分けている。
