Rich textured plates

これは、鶴野啓司さん（上・粉引）、光藤佐さん（左・刷毛目）、余宮隆さん（右）の表情豊かな四寸皿。直径12センチ程度の四寸皿は、おかずを取り分けるための食器としては最小でコンパクトだから、他の食器と並べるときにちょうどよく、ちょっと深さがあるものを選んでおくと、汁のある煮物も、お刺身も、サラダもと汎用性があってよいのだ。人が集まる時には、六〜七寸のプレートに重ねてしつらえる。すると気取った感じでおもてなしの気持ちを表せる。といっても日用の小皿なので、肩肘張らずリラックスした雰囲気で会話も弾むのだった。

This is a small plates by Keiji Tsuruno (top), Tasuku Mitsufuji (left), and Takashi Yomiya (right). Plates of 12 cm in diameter are the smallest size for serving side dishes. Yet it’s ideal for pairing with other tableware. Choosing one with a bit of depth makes it versatile—perfect for simmered dishes with broth, sashimi, or salad. I set them on bigger plates for gatherings.This simple layering creates an elegant touch, conveying hospitality yet casual that the relaxed atmosphere of everyday ceramic remains for gatherings of close fiends.
