Spoon by Kotaro Matsuura

This is Kotaro Matsuura’s renge-spoons. It is very popular but in fact, it was first made in 2015 for the “UTSU-WA? – Secret Restaurant for Enjoying Utsuwa and Meals” that I preside over. These 4 are the first model. I remember the night we enjoyed Chef Masayo Funakoshi’s soup with the freshly made renge-spoons checking the balance and mouthfeel, The weight, texture, and shape all felt right to me from the beginning. However Matsuura has continued to make improvements and produce ones that are favored by many people.

これは松浦コータローさんのレンゲ。個展で大人気の品物だけれど、実はさかのぼること2015年、私が主宰している「UTSU-WA? -うつわと食を愉しむシークレットレストラン」のために、初めて制作してくださったものだ。この4本は、その宴で使って受注生産をお願いした初代モデルの一部。できたてほやほやのれんげを前に、手に持ったときのバランスや口当たりを参加してくださったお客様みんなで確かめながら、船越雅代シェフによるスープやデザートをいただいた夜を思い出す。口当たりも重さも手触りも形も、私には最初からしっくりきているのだけれど、松浦さんはその後も飽くなき改良を重ねられ、たくさんの人に支持されるレンゲを作り続けている。作り手と使い手がともにテーブルを囲み、うつわについてあれこれ思い巡らす会、またやれたらいい。

The spoon has a protrusion on the back that allows it to float in the air, so you don’t have to worry about placing it directly on the table, and it is stable and secure when you lean it against the edge of a plate or bowl.
裏側に突起がついていてスプーンの部分が宙に浮くので、テーブルに直置きでも気にならないし、お皿やどんぶりのふちに寄りかからせたときに安定して安心。具材の色に合わせて絵柄を選びがち。
